Harry and Meghan – a Modern Fairy Tale?

After a whirlwind royal romance and engagement, Meghan Markle’s Big Day has finally arrived!

Today, Saturday 19 May, at midday, Meghan will glide down the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor to marry her Prince, Harry.

And how do we feel about this rather momentous occasion here at Mostly Mum HQ?

A mixed-up mélange of enthusiasm, excitement and envy…

We’re enthusiastic and excited about seeing all the glitz and the glamour, naturally…

Who will she have picked to design her dress??? What will it look like? Elaborate, simple, embellished… Just. cannot. wait. to. see. it!

A wedding dress fit for a princess? All will soon be revealed!

We were all so wrong!

Meghan chose Givenchy and looks utterly resplendent! ❤️❤️❤️

The happy couple! 💖👑

On the other hand, there will be a teeny tiny yet tangible hint of envy, as, is there a girl out there who, at some point or other, hasn’t wanted to be spirited away on a white horse by the handsome prince to her very own ‘happy ever after’?!

(If not, please let me know in the comments section below! 😊)

Meghan’s motto? A popular German saying that is quite fitting to Meghan’s life as from today

While on holiday in Germany last year, I picked up the sweet box pictured above as it summed up my feelings on those days when life seems to be one huge obstacle after another.

Because on those challenging days, all I want is to be rescued by that mysteriously magical fairy-tale Prince Charming and look forward to a guaranteed ‘happy ever after’.

As little girls, the fairy-tale ending is everything (for most of us, at least!) and we truly believe it can come to pass…

And in some ways, it does, when you meet ‘the One’, have your ‘dream’ wedding and start a family.

However, the harsh reality is that the ups and downs of life often get in the way and thwart that very notion of ‘happy ever after’.

So much so that the lives of Meghan…

Kate Middleton…

Kate waved goodbye to life as a non-royal when she married Prince William over seven years ago

And Grace Kelly (among other non-royal women who married into royalty) seem to be enviable by comparison.

Grace Kelly, much like Meghan, gave up her acting career to marry her prince, Rainier III of Monaco, but was it a fairytale ending for her?

On a superficial level, it is hard not to draw the conclusion that the lives of these real life Cinderellas could be anything but blessed.

Money worries?

Childcare problems?

That’s what the nannies are there for, of course!

Arguments over whose turn it is to empty the bins, load the dishwasher, tend to the garden etc, etc?

Non-existent with hired help on tap!

A blissful existence, no matter how you look at it!

And almost as blissful as the love story portrayed in…

Harry and Meghan’s official engagement photos…

Their engagement exposé…

And unposed paparazzi pics!

Meghan, the beautiful, but non-royal, American actress met her handsome prince on a blind date less than two years ago in July 2016.

‘We were introduced actually by a mutual friend,’ Harry disclosed during that BBC post engagement interview. (According to E! News, the mutual friend is a certain Violet von Westenholz, a Ralph Lauren P.R. whose father is a baron and friend of Prince Charles.)

Harry and Meghan’s romance has been a whirlwind so far

So a truly modern beginning to a traditional fairy-tale ending.

We await the epilogue with bated breath because…

We can’t give up on that elusive notion of ‘happy ever after’!

Not when we have our daughters’ futures to consider! I wonder if Carole Middleton or Doria Ragland (Meghan’s mother) could advise… 🤔

To be continued…
