There has been a bit of a buzz in the beauty world over the last couple of weeks about a new ‘It’ mascara.
‘In short, I’m impressed – and with the amount of products that land on my desk each day, that’s no mean feat.’

‘Consider us converted.’

As soon as Mostly Mum got wind of all this, it was an instant FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out!) alert that could only be fixed by a spot of online shopping.
Click, click, clickity, click and voilà!
This appeared on my doorstop just over a day later. 🤩
So pink! So pretty! So glossy!
It’s the new Lash Slick from über cool US brand of the moment, Glossier! 💓
The excitement of my latest makeup purchase was even further intensified by the discovery of this nestled in-between the folds of the pink (!) padded envelope…
Glossier you. (Oh, that would be lovely, thank you!) A demurely spicy eau de parfum by the makeup brand du jour, Glossier – I loved this scent so much that it’s half gone… in less than a week! 😊
But who or what is Glossier and why all the hype?
In a nutshell, Glossier is a makeup brand from the US that was founded by Emily Weiss in late 2014. Almost overnight, it has become a cult favourite in the beauty world and its iconic ‘millenial-pink’ packaging graces the makeup bags of all the top beauty editors and makeup artists worldwide (and now, mine too!! 😊).
The pared back no-makeup-makeup look epitomizes Glossier’s brand philosophy and offers a ‘breath of fresh air’ style alternative to the contoured looks of Instagram.
Lash Slick, Glossier’s version of the pared back mascara, launched just under two weeks ago and apparently appeared only after 248 formulations and 18 months of painstaking development.
Glossier’s Lash Slick – a whole new level of perfectionism!
And what sets Glossier’s Lash Slick apart from the competition?
According to the brand’s website (www.glossier.com), ‘Lash Slick is the perfect everyday mascara. [It] curls and sculpts as it lengthens, enhancing the look of your natural lashes instead of clumping them together or spackling them in product. Teeny-tiny fibers coat lashes from root to tip to create a lengthened baby-extension, while flexible film-forming polymers lift and lock each fiber into place. And it’s water-resistant (not waterproof), so Lash Slick washes off eas[il]y with warm water at the end of your day.’
This rather lengthy description is accompanied by some poll results which state that the mascara is flake-proof, smudge-proof and lasts all day for over 90% of those surveyed.
Other claims include:
Cruelty free, paraben free, fragrance free and non-irritating!
So what does all this mean for a girl (probably a bit too old for that term now but who’s checking?! 😉) who likes her lashes long, thick and dramatic à la Kourtney Kardashian?
Volume-eyes? Definitely! ❤️
Smudge/flake-proof or not, pared back is not the look I am usually after where mascara is concerned…
However, in the name of fair play (and with a large measure of FOMO!), I buried my fave mascara of the minute (Primark’s £3 Amplif-eyed) at the bottom of my makeup bag…
PS… Amplif-eyed from Primark – for that false eyelash look without the mess!
Snapped a quick selfie for comparative (not narcissistic!) purposes…
Slightly clumpy after multiple coats but still love it!
Then, it was out with the old and in with the new!
And?! How was it?
Well, after a single coat, I was a little underwhelmed. It was so pared back as to be barely noticeable. I was already formulating the review in my head when I suddenly thought, in the interest of fairness, it might be best to try another coat or two before jumping to any hasty conclusions…
Two coats later and it was… a revelation! Definitely no clumping (which NEVER happens with my volumising mascaras, both low and high-end!), just long, feathery, glossy lashes that flicked out to the sides at exactly the right angle. I had ‘extensions without the extensions’, exactly as the website promised, for just £14 (plus £6 express delivery)!
A Glossier new me!
So is the Amplif-eyed for the bin now?
Well, um, no! I still love the wide-eyed, dramatic, volumising effect that this Primark brand gives me after just one coat so I am definitely not ready to part with it just yet. Equally, there will always be a space in my makeup bag for my fave mascaras from Benefit, Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
However, they will have to all budge up a bit as the pride of place award is now, most definitely, going to Glossier. 😘
Gotta go as I want to check Glossier’s Instagram page to see what other great products I’ve been missing out on.
I’ll keep you all posted, promise!
Until next time…
