Sometimes, it’s all just too much! The sun might be splitting the trees but that is of no consequence if you feel as if the weight of the world is upon your shoulders.

An unfortunate paradox of modern-day living is that never before in history has there been more choice, more convenience and more information at our disposal, but on the flip side, people are less content than ever before.

There is simply too much of everything bombarding us and jostling for our attention right now. Technology, while more advanced than ever, is a constant source of stress.

Smart phones are perpetually there, within our reach, screaming at us (well, it sometimes feels like that, at least to me it does…) about unanswered messages, unfinished to-do lists and unread breaking newsfeeds.

There is a constant sense of not having done enough, of not being enough, of never ever being ‘done’. The off switch is jammed in the ‘on’ position for the people of the 21st century to the point that progress seems to almost have regressed us to a constant state of unease and unhappiness.

So what does Mostly Mum do when it’s just all too much? She leaves every single one of those plates spinning in mid-air, takes herself off to the sanctuary of her bathroom and paints her nails the pinkest, happiest, summeriest colour she can find, i.e. Mod About You by O.P.I.

Or, at least that’s what I did this weekend when I just felt like I needed to step off the hamster wheel of constant chores, demands and never-ending to-do lists.

And do you know what, my dear readers? Just that teeny tiny act of self kindness, of pampering indulgence made me feel so much better that I even prolonged the session to include an impromptu pedicure as well.

Happy feet, happy me!

I don’t normally wear O.P.I nail polishes but having discovered the oh so pretty go-with-everything opaque pastel pink shade Mod About You – a shade that I had been unsuccessfully searching for… for years – it is now safe to say that I’m a bone fide O.P.I convertee.

And all the more so since discovering the ease of application (one coat is fine, two coats is just perfect and with no streaking whatsoever! Wow, just wow!) and the fact that it has already survived at least six bouts of heavy-duty washing up with absolutely no chipping! I know! Beyond amazing!

But best of all, despite the constant chores… the lack of sleep… the eternal busyness of my Mostly Mum world, just one coat of this polish makes me feel almost as glam as two of my favourite opaque-pastel-polish-loving Insta- land celebs, Made in Chelsea‘s Lousie Thompson…

And Irish model, TV personality and now wife (yes, you have indeed read that correctly!) of Made in Chelsea‘s Spencer Matthews, i.e. Vogue Williams (or should that now be ‘Matthews’?πŸ€” ).

I adore this regal outfit mum-to-be Vogue wore to the races recently. Those royal connections (Spencer’s brother, James, is married to Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa) must be rubbing off… πŸ˜‰

Sigh! There is definite emphasis on the almost in that term ‘almost as glam’…

Aargh! That darned internet is robbing me of my post mani-pedi sense of calm again. Maybe a third coat is in order, after all! 😳

Which nail polish match-all shade do you swear by? Please oh please, let me know in the comments section below and I’ll give it a whirl, promise!

Until next time,

πŸ’‹ Mostly Mum
