It’s officially summer! But unlike most summers in the British Isles, it really, truly feels like summer as we’re basking (or baking, can’t decide which!) in day after day of glorious sunshine!
In fact, according to the Daily Mail online (my guilty pleasure! 😳), it’s been one of the hottest summers on record since 1976 and the heat wave is set to continue through the month of July…
‘This UK weather is set to stick around as the country’s longest heatwave since 1976 is set to continue for another month, with the Met Office predicting uninterrupted sunshine in July.’ http://www.dailymail.co.uk, 03 July 2018
Not only that… According to The Times online (yes, I’ve been all over the papers today! Well, it is Sunday, after all… 😊), the current heat wave is a global phenomenon with temperatures soaring all across the northern hemisphere…
‘North America and Asia are also sweltering under intense heat. Denver reached 40.6C, which equalled the American city’s hottest day. Temperatures in Ahvaz, Iran, reached 54C, the highest the country has experienced.’ http://www.thetimes.co.uk, 05 July 2018
And all this after the coldest of cold snaps in February of 2018 when the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ caused unusually low temperatures and heavy snowfall throughout Europe and the British Isles.
Climate change? Global warming? Arctic ice caps melting?
Quite possibly. Back in March The Guardian reported on a study claiming as much stating:
‘The sort of severe winter weather that has rattled parts of the US and the UK is becoming more common as the Arctic warms, with scientists finding a strong link between high temperatures near the pole and unusually heavy snowfall and frigid weather further south.’ http://www.theguardian.com, 13 March 2018
Scary stuff indeed… if you were to dwell on it…
But here at Mostly Mum HQ we have no time to fret about situations over which we have no control. We’re more about problem solving and until we have a solution to the issue of global warming (you never know, could happen!🤷) we will have to shelve that concern and focus on solving the issue of how best to protect ourselves and our families from the more damaging effects of the prolonged hot weather.
An issue we have indeed solved with the list below:
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy!
If you’re feeling hot, bothered, frizzled and frazzled right now, think about treating yourself to the gorgeous gadgi-products (or gadget products even) listed underneath and you’ll be feeling a whole lot better in no time at all, promise! 😊
1. Garnier Ambre Solaire UV Water
Sun screen but not as we know it, folks!
Unlike the run of the mill (icky sticky!) sun screen lotions, this soothing Aloe Vera enriched water-like spray, which I picked up for just £8 from Sainsbury’s yesterday, hydrates and refreshes! A quick spritz first thing in the morning goes some way towards beating the school run burn (and in more ways than one! 😉)
2, 3 and 4. Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Face Protection Mist, Nivea Limited Edition Anti-perspirant by Matthew Williamson and Hawaiian Tropic Air Soft Face
Beautiful beauty products for a beautiful you this summer
Much like the UV water above, the Garnier Ambre Solaire Face Protection Mist (only £5, people!!) hydrates and refreshes as it protects and best of all, it can be applied over make up. How cool is that! (Literally!)
Anti-perspirant is an absolute essential in the sweltering heat but how much of a bonus is it when that anti-perspirant leaves absolutely no residue on your favourite outfits?! And not only that but this £2 corner shop find looks just so fabulous on your dressing table (as it’s been designed by the equally fabulous Matthew Williamson!) that you don’t have to expend any extra energy stuffing it into an already overstuffed vanity (or is that just me? 🤔)! As I said, fab.u.lous…Embed from Getty Images
Just like Matthew’s muse, the lovely Kelly Brook
And then for those days when you’re happy to go make up free (or not!), there is the totally yummy Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Air Soft Face (£6 from Sainsbury’s). I just love everything about this facial sunscreen; the extra light and whippy texture, the dreamy tropical scent, the illuminating effect on your skin and the fact that it can be used as a base for your foundation if you’re not brave enough to go bare-faced. A true treat!
5. Fade-defying Orchid Oil Shampoo and Conditioner
Ok, technically, these are two separate products but we can’t really use one without the other, can we?
Over the years, I have noticed that my hair has been looking more sun fried than sun-kissed with each and every bout of heavy-duty sun exposure. So, this year, I decided to protect my tresses from the more damaging effects of the light with this sulphate free, beautifully scented, UV fighting blend of orchid extract and grape seed oil by OGX (£6.99 each from Superdrug). Almost instantly, my frazzled locks were tamed and enriched with lustrous multi-faceted tones that shone. Even my array of greys seemed to have disappeared (or was that just my imagination?)! 🤔
6 and 7. Childs Farm 3 in 1 swim and Nivea Sun Kids
And not forgetting the little ones
This strawberry and mint shampoo, conditioner and body wash by award-winning Brit brand Childs Farm gently removes all traces of chlorine from delicate skin and fine baby hair, so is just perfect for the summer season.
I previously mentioned this product in an earlier post, Mostly Mum’s Top 6 Family Friendly Products of the week… We can’t survive without these, can you? ,which I put together back in April. At the time, I also mentioned a baby moisturiser by the same brand which was reported to cure eczema but because I hadn’t been trialling the product for that long, I couldn’t back up or deny the claims.
However, some time later, Baby C developed some dry eczema-like patches on the back of his leg. A couple of applications of the Childs Farm baby moisturiser and I swear they were no more! An amazing brand that I can’t rate highly enough! 😊
Next up is the Nivea Sun Kids Roll-on sunscreen (£4.50 from Boots). We picked this up while in Germany last year and I just love it because of its comforting trademark Nivea scent as well as the fact that the roll-on application is altogether less messy and more accurate than the traditional squirty bottle. ❤️❤️❤️
8 and 9. PS Peppermint Softening Heel & Elbow Balm and Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Body Butter
Gorgeous packaging for gorgeous stuff
Lately, I have been plagued by dry, cracked heels… (Don’t tell me my age is finally catching up on me… Gulp!). But happily, a trip to Primark (and £2) provided me with the solution! (Doesn’t it always?!) Just the tiniest amount of this wonder balm and my heels were transformed from cracked pavement rough to the babiest of soft. And as for that yummy peppermint scent… I’m obsessed!
Then, as an extra special pick-me-up after a day wrestling with the kids in the sticky heat, treat yourself to a DIY massage with the divinely scented and gloriously rich Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Body Butter. Say bye-bye burn and hello hydration! Perfection in a pot! 😍
10. Revolution Pro Fix Makeup Fixing Spray
If you’re anything like me, you’ll have reached the stage where it’s preferable to face the world with a full face of makeup than without! This is all great until the elements decide to play havoc with our carefully applied mask and, honestly, a bare face in all its… ahem… glory is probably a less scary prospect than the alternative melted version. 😳 So. not. a. good. look!
But never fear, a quick spritz of this magic spray by Revolution and your worst makeup melting fears will remain the stuff of nightmares! Hurray!
So there you have it, folks! A little spot of pampering for yourselves and your families this summer and you’ll be feeling more fabulous than flustered as you ride that heatwave wave!
What are your must-have summer products? I’d love to hear about them in the comments section below.
Until next time,
