Okay, so it’s confession time! I’ve been having a longterm love affair (noooo, not that kind of one! ๐) … with the beauty industry!
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved, invested in and experimented with more beauty products than I could ever attempt to name in a 1000 (ish) word blog post.
My love of all things beauty related probably peaked around the age of 25 when I was convinced that I had passed my best and needed to do everything within my power to protect myself from each and every outward sign of old age.
Oh, yes, Jess! I felt your pain! ๐ณ
So, every high-end (mostly Clinique) beauty balm I could get my mitts on was stuffed into my overflowing beauty cabinet. Hours were spent gently patting (see gif below for demo) my delicate eye area in the (vain?) hope that all those late nights of my (party central) early twenties would never catch up with me.
I knew that I was, in all likelihood, going a little overboard, but I was quite happily addicted!
After all, in the grand scheme of things, a beauty addiction is pretty harmless, right?!
And, as I was about to find out, it’s actually not that difficult to kick. Just have a few babies, quit your glamorous day job and hey presto! No time or money left for lavish beauty habits beyond the bare essentials… Baby wipes to remove make-up (on the rare occasion that I actually remembered to apply any) and a dab of Aldi’s wonderful Lacura Caviar moisturiser if I hadn’t managed to pass out before hitting the bathroom!
That was until I had a beauty reawakening earlier this year! While grappling with my latest addiction (what can I say? I have an addictive personality!), which is social media, I was bombarded by images of the cutest, pinkest skin care range that I had laid eyes on in quite a while. Oh, and with the most adorable of names to boot…
My dear readers, take a deep breath and behold the beauty that is… Pixi! Ta-dah!
In Milennial speak, “I am literally obsessed!” ๐
Pixi’s Insta-worthy beauty products were all over the โGram. Every notable beauty influencer seemed to have tried them. I was intrigued…
And then, while in Australia over the Christmas period, I discovered the physical (as opposed to the virtual) range in Sephora, the “it” emporium for every โit” beauty product known to (wo)mankind.
As magical as pixie dust?
A kid in a sweet shop is nothing compared to me… in Sephora… surrounded by sweet skin treats! For proof of this, look no further than my earlier post ๐ This week Mostly Mum was mostly shopping inโฆ Sephora
I just had to see if all the Insta-hype was justified. I simply had to try a few teeny tiny samples…
Ooh, and what is with all these scientific looking serums?
Might as well pop this pink iridescent one from Primark into my brand spanking new skin care routine as well! โบ๏ธ
Suddenly, I have a whole bag full of reasons to fall back in love with a regular skin care routine…
I’m not altogether sure if a Pixi product really does contain pixie dust but
And here are the top three reasons why…
1. It’s purifying
Pixi is a cult British brand by Petra Strand, whose mission statement is to “simply bring out the natural beauty in all women” (pixibeauty.co.uk). ๐
(Cute packaging, a memorable name, a great philosophy – this brand totally “had me at hello”!) ๐
The Glow Tonic is one of the better known products from the brand, and as soon as I tried out the mini version I was completely sold. Almost immediately, I placed an order for the 200ml version (this product was going to get a lot of use!) as well as the almost-as-Insta-famous Rose Tonic.
Like all of the Pixi products, the Glow Tonic is multi-tasking – it exfoliates and hydrates. But for me, this glycolic acid based formula proved to be one the best cleansers I have ever used. Daily build-up of make-up and city grime gone in a single sweep. ๐
Similarly, the sweetly scented Rose Tonic rehydrates and refreshes, but is also one of the best purifying cleansers that I have used to date. As an added bonus, the soothing rose flower extract formula minimises red patches to reveal a smooth glowing complexion underneath.
I am currently alternating between the two Tonics to switch up my daily routine a little.
Love, love, love! ๐
2. It’s anti-ageing
I found the Rose Flash Balm from my mini trial pack to be so soothing and skin plumping that I couldn’t wait to branch out to the ultra-rich Rose Ceramide cream for that extra anti-ageing boost.
After the first application my skin instantly felt smoother, and more supple and youthful. Not only that, I also felt a whole lot better knowing that the powerful antioxidants contained in the luxe formula would be protecting my delicate skin from further free-radical damage!
What is not to love?!
3. It’s relaxingย
Admittedly, for quite a few years after having children, a fixed daily skin routine has felt like more of a chore than anything else. Just another thing to tick off on a never-ending to-do list.
But now, my revamped skin care routine based around my new Pixi products (with a bit of Primark’s Glow elixir thrown in for good measure) is a daily treat. A much-needed self-care boost that I just have to fit in around all the cooking, cleaning, washing, writing, wrestling with a toddler, school runs, social media scrolling etc., not only for my physical wellbeing but for my emotional wellbeing as well.
To take the time to properly cleanse and moisturise my skin not only calms the physical blemishes but the emotional ones too!
It’s a real revelation!
And the overall result…
In my mind’s eye, the result of my new Glow Tonic based skin care routine looks something like this…
Or even this…
The reality is a lot less glamorous but glowing nonetheless…
Because, as a result of my renewed skin care habits, my complexion is smoother, firmer, more even in tone and, yes, it definitely has a more youthful glow.
Tinker Bell I might not be, but there is absolutely some magic in my new-found Pixi dust!
Now, if only I could conjure up a way to stop my tween from pouring my precious Pixi tonics into her slime concoctions… (I kid you not!) Aargh! ๐ก
Any suggestions would be most welcome in the comments section below! โบ๏ธ
What are the chances that her โslimeโ experimentation will result in the next โitโ beauty brand and Iโll be compensated for all my beauty related financial losses to date?
No need to answer that, my dear readers!
I prefer to live in hope (however misguided)! ๐
Until next time,
๐ Mostly Mum
